~ Celebrations and Remembrances ~ |
We invite all members of the Driftwood Acres Community to share joyful celebrations as well as sorrows in their lives. Please email the website administrator at: Sheilaonthefly@comcast.net to have your celebration or sorrow placed on the website.

One of the original Driftwood Acres community families, Dick and Miriam Stoops, will be laid to rest on June 21st at 2:00 pm behind the Kittitas County Fire Department - Fire District Number 6, Station 62 located at 14030 Salmon La Sac, Ronald WA. The burial ceremony will be a fitting tribute to Dick considering that Station 62 was his last engineering design project as a WA Professional Engineer. The building Dick designed is located just across the street from the first entrance to Driftwood Acres. Dick and Miriam, who passed away years ago, will have their ashes, combined in concrete blocks, buried behind fire station.
Dick and Miriam built one of the first Driftwood Acres cabins in 1967 on three lots located on the corner of Driftwood Drive and Juniper Lane. They both retired to live permanently at the cabin in 1982. Dick lived a life of hard work, deep faith, and reliable community service. He spent his retirement years at Driftwood Acres, managing the community water system he designed and volunteering with Kittitas County Fire Department, Fire District Number 6. The Driftwood Acres water system design was his pride and joy, and he worked tirelessly overseeing and maintaining the system for Driftwood Acres from 1967 until he moved to the Ballard Landmark 24/7 care facility full time in 2017.
An informal celebration of his life will be held at Station 62 after the burial. To help with the planning, Nan Stoops would like to know how many people plan on attending. Please email Mike Grover at mgrover65@comcast.net so I can let Nan know how many people she should plan for.
